- Title
Engaging the Struggling Reader: Focusing on Reading and Success across the Content Areas.
- Authors
Taylor, Carolyn R.
- Abstract
This research discusses characteristics of the "struggling reader" at the secondary level and provides a critical lens to the various dimensions of the reading process that make it so pervasive and challenging to navigate. Because there are so many variables that complicate the reading process and its components, it is expedient that content area reading teachers have basic knowledge of: how students struggle through the reading process, how students perceive the significance of reading, and how students can be motivated to become fluent and successful readers in school and across the content areas. Further, this manuscript offers strategies that teachers may find useful in combating this reading crisis.
