An essay is presented on the changes brought by Baron Georges-Eugène Haussmann, a prefect of French emperor Napoléon III, in Paris, France in the 19th century through civic, esthetic and architectural innovation. It mentions a decree announced by the emperor for the commission of la Transformation with a view to redesign Paris to make it more competitive with other European capitals. It also examines the presence of urban annotations and transformation in contemporary France.
