- Authors
Tavakolian, Hamid; Howell, Nancy
- Abstract
The article presents a study which examines the disparity of compensation between men and women in the U.S. in 1980 and 2010. Findings reveal that the gender earnings gap between male and female declines from 36% in 1980 to 19% in 2010. It says that the development in gender compensation rate is triggered by the introduction of the Equal Pay Act of 1963. It explores the important court decisions in the U.S. related to the equal pay law. Meanwhile, several charts are presented including women's earnings as a percentage of men's from 1980-2009, the percentage of women in labor force, and the median weekly earnings of both men and women in the workforce.
