- Abstract
The article discusses the political implications of testing the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine for tuberculosis in Algeria during the years between World War I and World War II. It examines the role of the late scientist Albert Calmette in the development of the vaccine and the vaccine's review by the Health Organization of the League of Nations. The article states that Calmette was required to conduct field experiments and discusses his search for a place to experiment, including French colonial populations in Algiers.
