- Abstract
Oxygen is essential for proper wound healing. In the site of injury, it activates processes connected with damaged tissue repair by affecting the production of collagen and a number of factors such as: interleukins, VEGF, PDGF, endothelin-1 and TGF-β. In recent years, many therapeutic methods based on oxygen and ozone application on chronic wounds have been developed. The use of hyperbaric chambers, oxygen-ozone mixtures and local oxygen therapy are very promising.
