- Abstract
Yusuf Akyura, a northern Turk in origin, thinker and writer, lived in a time of turmoil and witnessed events that shook the World. Most of his time passed in a period when the Turks of the Ottoman Empire and Russia experienced a close relationship. He actively participated in these relationships as a leading intellectual and a political activist. As a person who closely knew the situation of the Turks of the Ottoman Empire and Russia, he often compared, criticized and commented on the intellectual and political developments. Studies rather focused on his writing about Turkey and ignored his writing on the Turks on Russia. Therefore, this study focused on his writings and analysis on the intellectual movements among the Northern Turks, his criticisms on some prejuqices of the Ottoman intellectuals, his contributions of rewriting the Turkish history and the evaluation of his thoughts of Turkism.
