- Abstract
The article presents a look at the learning of author Willa Cather. According to the author, Cather's deepest books are about learning, sensitivity, and vulnerability. He describes how he saw a girl circling slowly and attentively throughout a room, listening to conversations, and suggests that Cather learned in much the same way. He offers a look at the book "The Song of the Lark," and suggests that Cather's ability to feel nature allows her to also understand men and women. The books "One of Ours," "O Pioneers!," "A Lost Lady," "My Ántonia" and "Sapphira and the Slave Girl," are also discussed.
