- Abstract
This article describes the first case of mediastinal cryobiopsy guided by endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) in Brazil. The combination of EBUS and cryobiopsy, known as transbronchial mediastinal cryobiopsy guided by EBUS (EBUS-TBMC), is a novel sampling strategy for difficult cases such as lymphoproliferative diseases and benign infectious and inflammatory lesions. The authors present a case of a 50-year-old female patient with mediastinal lymph node enlargement, periodic fever, and cough, who underwent EBUS-TBMC for a differential diagnosis. The procedure was successful, and histopathological analysis revealed chronic granulomatous lymphadenitis, suggesting a diagnosis of sarcoidosis. The authors highlight the potential of EBUS-TBMC in obtaining larger tissue samples with preserved architecture and plan to publish a case series in the future.
