- Authors
Casey, Donna
- Abstract
The article provides guidance for medical-surgical nurses to respond to patients inquiring about aid in dying, or AID. It is said that withdrawal and withholding of life-sustaining treatments is more common than AID and is widely accepted socially. Some patients who request AID have symptoms of depression as well as fear of suffering. It is mentioned that requests for AID should offer the starting point for discussing options and interventions to alleviate fear and suffering.
