- Abstract
Sweet's syndrome (SS), also known as acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis, is characterized by the presence of erythematous and tender skin lesions with coexisting fever, peripheral neutrophilia and dermal infiltration consisting of neutrophils, as well as rapid response of skin lesions to systemic corticosteroids. SS may be a manifestation of malignancy, connective tissue diseases and rarely inflammatory bowel diseases: Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (UC). Up to now, there have been reported about 40 cases of SS associated with UC. Herein, we present a case of severe SS of skin and mucous membranes in a 52-year-old women with ulcerative colitis. Symptoms of bowel disease preceded SS for a few months. Histological examination of skin lesions disclosed the presence of mainly neutrofilic inflitration in the dermis. The eruptions and patient's general condition improved after 10 days under systemic steroid treatment.
