- Title
Competitive ballroom dancing is back!
- Authors
Gainor, J. Ellen
- Abstract
The article discusses same-sex ballroom dancing. The author notes that she is constantly asked "who leads?" The question is indicative of the deeply-held notion that ballroom dancing is a heterosexual art form which represents sexual desire and romance, but also dominance and submission. The popularity of competitive same-sex ballroom dancing is demonstrated in the events featured in the annual Gay Games and Outgames, as well as "Fred/Fred Ginger/Ginger" instruction classes offered in several cities throughout the world.
