- Abstract
During World War II, the Bank of England transported gold and securities to Canada to protect them from a potential German invasion. The Canadian government played a crucial role in safeguarding and brokering the contents of the shipments. The gold was stored in the Bank of Canada building in Ottawa, while the securities were stored in the Sun Life Insurance building in Montreal. The assets were organized and sold to raise money for Britain, and eventually, the United States implemented the Lend-Lease policy to provide further financial assistance. This helped Britain overcome its financial emergency and achieve victory in 1945.
