The article discusses the phonographic recording of a poetry reading by English poet Robert Browning, played during the commemoration of his death by the London Browning Society in the late 19th century. Topics explored include the selection of a verse in the poem "How They Brought the Good News From Ghent to Aix" by Browning, the apology given by Browning after he forgot his own verses, and the visual representation of Browning's voice by the illustrated magazine "Black and White."
