- Abstract
The article discusses the growing and exporting of hops in Vermont during the 19th century, focusing on the aspects of growing hops that led to the decline in hop farming in Vermont. Other topics include the development of hops in Vermont from 1800 until it was commercially viable around 1840, factors that led to the decline of hops in Vermont including weather, the success of other growing regions and the temperance movement, and the role of hop harvesting in Vermont society/culture.
