- Abstract
This article presents information about the 2006 invasion of Jamaica by millions of tiny crabs. The crab was identified as a land crab that is common in Jamaica and is a source of protein. A 1918 study indicated that a similar occurrence was observed and that it was part of the normal reproductive cycle of this particular crab. Adult female crabs return to the sea to deposit their eggs during the month of May. When the eggs have developed into miniature versions, they make their way from the seas back to their parents on land. Scientists believe that the migration of adults to the sea went unnoticed by Jamaicans.
