An essay is presented which explores the eco-erotic themes of the poems of Canadian author Emily Pauline Johnson particularly her selection of the canoe as a poetic subject. Topics discussed include the depiction of Indigenous self-determination and sexuality in her erotic canoe poetry, the association of the canoe with Canadian nationalism, and the queer studies of her poems.
