- Abstract
This essay presents a literary criticism of Jack Kerouac's novel "On the Road," particularly in regards to his depictions of family, gender roles, and social norms within the character of the white nomad. Kerouac's social criticism of white, suburban fathers' lives in the 1950s is discussed in depth. Various aspects of the nomad's masculinity expressed in the book are highlighted.
