- Abstract
Education is a major factor in the development of human resources and the formation of nations. A fundamental ability needed for success in a variety of jobs is reading. The significance of reading is demonstrated by the Qur'an, which states that it is the first commandment that Allah has given. This study sought to determine how storytelling affected the grade V pupils at SDN Jatimurni V Bekasi's reading comprehension abilities. This study employed a quantitative technique and a quasi-experimental design. The study had two classes: the experimental group, which employed the storytelling technique, and the control group, which utilized the conventional approach. According to the results, the experimental class's mean score was 86.13, whereas the control class's was 67.65. The data were found to be homogenous and normally distributed based on the results of the homogeneity and normality tests. There was a substantial difference between the two groups, according to the t-test hypothesis test findings. Consequently, the narrative approach outperformed the traditional approach in terms of enhancing reading comprehension. Pupils that use the narrative approach of instruction exhibit higher levels of motivation, activity, and positive attitudes regarding the texts they read. As a result, using the narrative style in reading education can raise students' comprehension levels and assist in addressing Indonesia's low literacy rate.
