- Abstract
The article discusses results of a study that examines the effects of delirium in older patients in the emergency department (ED) and whether it is a predictor of prolonged length of stay (LOS) in the hospital. The methods and subjects for the prospective cohort study are discussed, including the use of Confusion Assessment Method for the Intensive Care Unit (CAM-ICU) to determine delirium status among patients. The study showed that delirium, as an independent predictor of prolonged LOS, has negative consequences in older patients.
