- Title
BECOMING A NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHER: One Teacher's Perspective.
- Authors
Burns, John
- Abstract
The article focuses on the process to become a National Board Certified Teacher (NBTC) to improve one's future practice in the U.S. The certification is a voluntary undertaking by teachers and symbolizes teaching excellence as measured by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), a nonprofit, nonpartisan, and independent organization. As a member of the organization, teachers are committed to students and their learning, responsible for managing and monitoring student learning, and know the subjects they teach to students. A teacher must complete a four-part portfolio and six assessment center items to be awarded a certificate and designated a NBCT.
