- Title
POSTMODERN DEVELOPMENTS IN MICHELLE CLIFF'S NO TELEPHONE TO HEAVEN AND ESMERALDA SANTIAGO'S WHEN I WAS PUERTO RICAN.
- Authors
Strongman, Roberto
- Abstract
The article presents a literary criticism of the books "No Telephone To Heaven," by Michelle Cliff and "When I Was Puerto Rican," by Esmeralda Santiago. It examines how the concept of time as linear and continuous has been challenged and substituted with alternative forms of recounting development. Through the authors' use of literary devices of flashback and the vignette, personal histories are created that mirror communal identities the characters represent.
