- Title
Seeing Cage, Hearing Beuys.
- Authors
Miles, Stephen
- Abstract
The author presents an offer to perform the "Song Books" composition of John Cage with the New College Chamber Singers, as part of the "Multiples" exhibit of Joseph Beuys at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. The opportunity to perform Cage's music at a venue different from auditoriums and music halls is appealing because the environment of a gallery is ideal for it. The works of both Beuys and Cage focuses on the expression and thought of form. The artists also incorporate stage performance in their projects that depict the awareness of freedom in society.
