- Abstract
The article weighs the risks and benefits of polypharmacy for patients with substance use disorders (SUD). Topics discussed include the role of polypharmacy from the perspective of a harm-reduction approach, challenges and vulnerability posed by treatment plans for SUDs to polypharmacy regimens such as the association of substance use with poor psychiatric medication adherence rates due to medication adverse effects and diagnostic uncertainty, and approaches to polypharmacy management.
