- Abstract
The article analyzes the use of technology in the detention of migrants and its alternatives. It highlights that the technologies used in immigration detention receive less attention than the technologies used to manage borders. The need to address ethical and human rights issues related to the use of technology in this context is raised. The change in the United Kingdom from in-person appearances to telephone appearances is mentioned as an example of how technology can alleviate the requirements of the appearance procedure and improve the mental health and well-being of those affected. The International Detention Coalition (IDC) is conducting research to understand the impact of technology on the lives of migrant people and promote better policy practices. The importance of establishing strong legal frameworks at the national level to protect the rights of those affected and ensure accountability in the use of technology in the detention of migrants is also highlighted.
