NOTES ON POPE'S CORRESPONDENCE.
- Authors
Rogers, Pat
- Abstract
The article focuses on the book "The Correspondence of Alexander Pope," edited by George Sherburn. In editing poet Alexander Pope's correspondence, Sherburn argued that the year was mistakenly given in the transcript which survives among the Homer manuscripts in the British library. The relationship with Pope's close friend John Caryll can also be stated more explicitly. The aim of this note is to support the revised dating and to identify British nobleman Edward Bedingfield more precisely. All this indicates how closely Edward Bedingfield was interlocked among the Catholic gentry with whom Pope became so familiar.
