- Title
Stylistics, Narratology, and Point of View: Partiality, Complementarity, and a New Definition.
- Authors
Shen, Dan
- Abstract
Both stylistics and narratology pay much attention to point of view. This article discusses, from an interdisciplinary perspective, the advantages and disadvantages of each approach and tries to clear up the various kinds of confusion involved. It argues that the different concerns of stylistics and narratology result in two partial pictures that are very much complementary to each other. Both partiality and complementarity call for a redefinition of point of view to facilitate a more comprehensive investigation.
