- Title
Language Policy and Multilingual Identity in Sweden Through the Lens of Generation Y.
- Authors
Sundberg, Gunlög
- Abstract
The article discusses Swedish language policy in relation to Swedish youth's attitudes towards multilingualism. Focus is given to the Swedish Language Act of 2009, which seeks to protect the use of the Swedish language while simultaneously promoting multilingualism. The author traces the implementation of the law to Swedes' increased use of the English language in social situations. It is argued that members of Generation Y would benefit from a more inclusive multilingual education.
