- Abstract
A profile of the Polish author, poet and playwright Roman Brandstaetter is presented along with an overview of his works and prominent literary themes. Details are given outlining his birth in Tarnow, Poland to a Jewish family in 1905, his studies in language and literature at Krakow Jagiellonian University, and his conversion to Christianity from Judaism in 1943. Multiple examples of Brandstaetter's works are given and analyzed, citing heavy influences from Roman Catholic spirituality. Further discussion is given regarding Brandstaetter's reception within the Polish literary canon in his lifetime and after his death.
