- Title
Reply to McWhorter’s ‘Hither and thither in Saramaccan Creole’.
- Authors
Lefebvre, Claire
- Abstract
The article features the author's response to the article of John McWorter's analysis of the Saramaccan serial verb construction involving the verbs meaning "to throw" and "to remove". She cited McWorter's claims that Haitian does not have equivalence to the two verbs and that Saramaccan is closer to Fongbe than Haitian. With these statements the author reacted and stated that McWorther's claim is incorrect. Further, she pointed that in "Lefebvre" she did not argue on the statement that Saramaccan is equally complex than of Fongbe but discussed only the claims of the alleged simplicity of the Creole languages.
