- Abstract
Phytotherapy is an ancient practice that uses medicinal plants to prevent and treat numerous illnesses. It is an accessible, safe and effective therapeutic alternative in the public health system. This research sought to understand the perception of health professionals in the phytotherapy sector of the Reference Center for Integrative and Complementary Practices in Health of Amapá (CERPIS) about national policies related to Integrative and Complementary Practices (PNPIC/Ordinance No. 971/2006) and Medicinal Plants and Phytotherapeutics (PNMPF/Law No. 10,887/2004), in addition to inventorying the species used in therapeutic treatments. Five employees from the sector were interviewed and two forms were used to evaluate their professional profile and list the plant species used. Professionals positively evaluated the PNPMF and PNPIC, highlighting their role in expanding therapeutic options. Health professionals (prescribers) mentioned 44 species of medicinal plants to treat various pathologies in 14 body systems, with emphasis on the digestive system. Phytotherapy plays an important role in the public health system, highlighting the therapeutic potential of plants.
