- Abstract
Aging is a worldwide phenomenon and it is a phase of life that every individual will have to go through one day. Aging can be understood in multiple dimensions, being a variation dependent on several factors such as lifestyle, socioeconomic conditions and chronic diseases. However, the elderly population has been showing a favorable growth and a considerable increase in the occurrence of chronic degenerative pathologies provoke the need for training and reorganization of health services, including better training and training of professionals responsible for caring for these patients. Objectives: To establish the importance of the role of the physiotherapist in the treatment of elderly people with injuries from falls and in the prevention of falls caused in this age group, promoting balanced health in old age. Methodology: review of articles related to the study of specific knowledge of physiotherapists on the prevention of pathologies resulting from falls in the elderly. Results: The physiotherapist has knowledge about the prevention of falls among the elderly, promoting rehabilitation in the elderly, also providing independence, autonomy and quality of life for the elderly. Injuries caused by falls from muscle weakness and domestic accidents in the elderly. Physiotherapeutic maneuvers in the preventive treatment of falls and motor imbalance in the elderly stand out in improving body alignment, muscle strengthening, static and dynamic balance, controlling the posture of the elderly, improving gait in carrying out their activities of daily living. Conclusion: A bond between the physiotherapist and the elderly is necessary for the treatment of prevention of diseases and injuries caused by falls to be effective, promoting an old age with quality of life.
