- Abstract
It is considered that one of the difficulties presented by high school students in relation to Financial Mathematics is in the interpretation of problems. One of the possible causes lies in the fact that content memorization is valued. The objective of the research was to analyze which concepts and procedures on Financial Mathematics high school students from a Brazilian public school present before studying them in the classroom with the help of teachers. A qualitative and quantitative research was developed, consulting 20 subjects. A questionnaire consisting of 30 questions was applied. Discursive Textual Analysis aided using Descriptive Statistics techniques was used in data analysis. It was found that despite adequately defining what Financial Mathematics is, they were not able to articulate the conceptual relationships between fee, tax, and amount, making conceptual changes that impacted the use of mathematical procedures in problemsolving.
