The article presents the authors' insights regarding a new guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO) on the duration of bladder catheterisation following the surgical repair of simple obstetric urinary fistula. Topics include the social problems faced by women with obstetric urinary fistula, a systematic review on the duration of bladder catheterisation after the surgical repair of simple obstetric urinary fistula, and short duration bladder catheterisation.
