- Title
Native American Demography in New France: Historical Sources and the Hermeneutics of Numbers.
- Authors
Dubois, Paul-André; Morin, Maxime
- Abstract
This article is devoted to the demography of the Catholic indigenous populations of Canada of the Tadoussac area and Acadia from 1680 to 1763. After reviewing the historical and statistical sources relevant to this study, we turn to the traditional ratio that a certain number of warriors belonging to a specific group corresponds to a population whose size is determined by a warrior/population ratio. The practical validation of this calculation will be the subject of a second article published by Recherches amérindiennes au Québec.
