- Abstract
The article discusses the concept of "crossbenching" as a model for participating in existing situations or projects by creating conflicts between different areas of knowledge. It argues that consensus-building should not be the goal, but rather that critical distance and conflict zones enable participation. The article emphasizes that the idea of participation and the public sphere has been changed by social media platforms. It also points out that participation in major issues is often not possible and that the public sphere and participation are drifting apart. The article suggests using the public sphere to disrupt and criticize participation. It also highlights the importance of co-determination in the workplace, especially in Germany where there are legal regulations for co-determination. The text also addresses the issue of participatory research and the exoticization of those being studied in anthropology. It emphasizes that anthropology should provide reliable knowledge, even if it goes against the will of those being studied. The text also discusses the gap between critical local history and writing local chronicles. It emphasizes that more work needs to be done on the origins, mechanisms, and effects of local memory culture. The article also emphasizes the importance of participation in museum projects and recommends open discussions and questioning of existing structures and individuals. It emphasizes that participation should include new perspectives and challenge existing practices. The text also includes a list of books and articles on various topics.
