- Title
Engineers Prove Graphene's Strength.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the strength of the carbon material graphene that was proven by researchers at Columbia University in New York City. The material comprises of a single layer of graphite atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice. It cites experimental challenges that have complicated previous laboratory tests of graphene, including the difficulty of making specimens small enough to be free of defects. According to mechanical engineering professor Hone James, the work can lead to a better understanding of the behavior of materials at extreme conditions.
