- Abstract
The article examines the universal appeal of islands in humanity's artistic imagination. The author discusses how islands have become inspirations for historical and cultural achievements throughout history, including Charles Darwin's development of his ideas on evolution while in the Galapagos Archipelago, the rich island lore of Classical Greece, and Dante's vision of the Christian afterlife with the Mountain of Purgatory as an island.
