- Abstract
The health sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia consumes the second largest volume of government spending after the education sector. It is also the largest in the Gulf region in terms of government spending, and many positive changes are expected to occur to achieve the vision of Kingdom 2030. The study aims to explore the characteristics of the health sector and analyze the relationship between government spending in this sector and the public budget in KSA. It uses the descriptive and quantitative method (ARDL) model and estimates the long-run relationship with the boundary methodology for co-integration using the error correction model. The main finding is that there is a positive relationship between the state budget of the Kingdom and the size of government spending on the health sector, as well as a positive relationship between the allocations of the Ministry of Health and the size of investment and consumer spending in the same sector. The study recommends reform and structural adjustment at the level of the sector and the various units to increase the efficiency of spending. It also recommends the need to increase investment in the private health sector, raise the efficiency of health services, and reduce pressure on the public budget.
