- Abstract
Culture is a common memory in which everything belonging to a nation is accumulated, and language is the most important cultural indicator as the creator and transmitter of this memory. At this point, cultural linguistics is a discipline that examines cultural elements through language and aims to reach the common memory of nations through linguistic units. Since Turkish lessons and textbooks used in these courses have an important place in teaching the mother tongue and culture, it is important to examine the texts from a cultural-linguistic point of view in terms of describing the state of cultural use in these materials. This study aims to examine the texts in the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade Turkish textbooks, prepared by different publishing houses in terms of cultural linguistics. For this purpose, 128 reading texts, including free reading texts in the textbooks, were included in the study. In the qualitative study, the document analysis method was used. In the research, firstly, the vocabulary of each textbook was determined. Then, proper nouns in the textbooks were classified in terms of allusions, events, and textual facts. Proverbs, idioms, colloquial elements, exclamations and addresses, foreign words, quotations, and dialect features were determined, and the coefficients and percentages of these words in the total and different words were determined. According to the study's findings, the texts are rich in allusions, foreign words, idioms, colloquial elements, exclamations, and addresses, but not rich in allusion texts and events, proverbs, quotations, and dialect features.
