- Abstract
In Mexico, 63 % of producers cultivate less than five agricultural hectares, which is why it is important to design and develop strategies to increase productivity in small surfaces. Results are presented in this study of research performed from 2015 to 2017, in a soursop (Annona muricata L.) orchard established with high density planting of 2,222 plants ha-1 (3×1.5 m). The study began when the plants were eight years of age and concluded at the age of 10. With the density evaluated, in the three years of study, an average fruit production of 28 t ha-1 was obtained. An outstanding aspect of the technology validated is the pruning system, which allowed maintaining trees of low height and harvesting the fruit manually, without using tools such as ladders or pickers, avoiding mechanical damages; likewise, this technology allowed having a more efficient control of pest organisms, facilitating the management of irrigation and fertilization programs. When this technology is applied, after the eighth year of production, the producer has average annual income of up to $663,873.49 pesos (USD$33200.00) of profit per hectare.
