- Abstract
This article discusses the role of LORELEI (LRE) in pollen tube reception during double fertilization in plants. The study found that LRE is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-linked protein that localizes to both the filiform apparatus (FA) and synergid cytoplasm. The authors confirmed that LRE's modification in the eight-cysteine motif (M8CM) is critical for its function in pollen tube reception. Additionally, the study showed that LRE and FERONIA (FER) are both required at the pollen tube/synergid cell interface to induce pollen tube reception. Further research on other signaling peptides could provide more insights into the processes involved in pollen tube targeting.
