- Title
RESPECTABLE REBELS. MIDDLE CLASS CAMPAIGNS IN BRITAIN IN THE 1970s (Book).
- Abstract
This article presents information on the book "Respectable Rebels. Middle Class Campaigns in Britain in the 1970's," edited by Roger King and Neill Nugent. This collection of essays on middle-class pressure groups has two superficial attractions. In, the first place, so much work is now being done on "politics from below" that anything systematic on the middle classes has the advantage of novelty. Secondly, although pressure groups like the National Association for Freedom and the National Viewers and Listeners Association are familiar enough at an impressionistic level, this collection at least has the merit of researching them thoroughly, thus giving an empirical base to all too easily articulated impressions.
