- Title
Eve's Perfection: Spinoza on Sexual (In) Equality.
- Authors
SHARP, HASANA
- Abstract
The article discusses philosopher Benedictus de Spinoza's rejection of sexual equality, arguing that such remarks in his book "Political Treatise" are inconsistent with his views in the book "Ethics," in which he interprets the biblical passage Genesis 2-3. It is said that Spinoza's views on gender relations contradict his argument for excluding women from democracy. Also addressed are the relation between human desire and freedom, the roles of the characters Adam and Eve in the biblical story of a Fall from the Garden of Eden, and the purported dependence of women on men due to female irrationality.
