- Abstract
From the databases of eight ultrasound centres, we identified patients with a surgically confirmed diagnosis of adnexal torsion, who had undergone preoperative ultrasound examination between 2012 and 2018. "Ovarian edema with or without peripherally displaced follicles" was reported in 167/241 (69.3%) patients, "whirlpool sign" in 178/226 (78.4%), and "follicular ring sign" in 51/134 (38.1%). On retrospective review of images, "ovarian edema with or without peripherally displaced follicles" sign (201/254; 79.1%) and "whirlpool sign" (139/153; 90.8%) were the most commonly detected features of adnexal torsion.
