- Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between masculinity, Asian values, acculturation, and depression of 59 Filipino-American men from professional, community, and campus organizations. Only acculturation contributed significant variance toward depression of the participants. Higher acculturated Filipino-American men reported greater depression than did less acculturated men. Controlling for years of education, Asian family and cultural values contributed unique variance toward male role norms, indicating that such values had more explanatory power than acculturation in understanding these norms. Implications for the counseling process and future research are discussed.
