- Abstract
The goal of the present study is to identify the self-perception of Physical Education teachers from the district of Viseu regarding professional competences. Our study is based on quantitative methods of research, in which we employed a non-experimental descriptive plan, with the use of inquiry. We established the total number of existing teachers in all the school of the district, and they were asked to answer a questionnaire by (Nascimento, 1999; Feitosa 2002), adapted to Portugal by (Batista, 2008), titled "Professional Competence Self-perception Scale for Physical Education and Sports", after which we built a sample comprising 69 teachers. To analyze results, we employed descriptive statistics methods, means, frequencies and standard deviation, and comparative statistics, T-Test. The results indicate that there are statistically significant differences between academic abilities of Physical Education teachers and professional competence self-perception in the dimensions of knowledge, skills and attitudes. The data also suggest the existence of statistically significant differences between teaching group (260/620) and professional competence self-perception in the dimension of knowledge.
