- Abstract
This paper presents an optimal design of digital low pass FIR filter by way of the particle swarm optimization method. Although, the traditional nonoptimization techniques are accessible for filter design, but endure the problem of analog to digital conversion and inefficient control of the frequency response. The conservative gradient based optimization processes are incapable to resolve non-differential functions and converge to limited optimum resolution. Hence particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed for the design of digital low pass FIR filter. Particular specifications of the desired filter are to be recognized, PSO algorithm, and outcomes with an optimal set of coefficients for digital FIR filter akin to the ideal specifications. The extensive simulation fallout signifies that the PSO reveals better performance in provision of magnitude response, minimum stop band ripple and maximum stop band attenuation with almost the same level of transition width. Consequently, particle swarm optimization is a finer optimizer meant for attaining the optimal filter coefficients in any practical digital filter design problem.
