- Abstract
Burden of atopic disease in Black and Hispanic patients with alopecia areata: a case-control study in the All of Us research program Alopecia areata (AA) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by asymptomatic, well-circumscribed patches of hair loss.[1] A recent case series by Feaster and McMichael[2] showed Blacks with AA to have a higher prevalence of comorbid atopic conditions (allergic rhinitis, asthma, and atopic dermatitis) compared to previous studies that analyzed comorbidity data without racial stratification. Although we were able to assess the prevalence of atopic disease in AA patients against a control group, our study is limited by its retrospective nature.
