- Abstract
This article examines the atypical or second-generation antipsychotic medications and their uses. It also studied the relationship between diabetes and several frequent indications for the use of these medications. First introduced during the 1950s, antipyschotic medications are a vital component of the medical management of several of these psychiatric disorders. These medications are often prescribed by non-psychiatric physicians. Because patients are responsible for 95 percent of disease management, a diagnosis of diabetes can lead to increased levels of anxiety, depressive symptoms, and lowered self-esteem. This is evident in individuals who have underlying psychiatric disorders.
