- Abstract
The article presents a study which examines the long-term spatial and temporal variation of red abalone fisheries in terms of productivity on the Northern Channel Islands. The study uses modern ecological data, historical accounts, commercial red abalone catch records, and zooarchaeological data for examining the continuity and resilience of red abalone fisheries. The study revealed a complex combination of top-down and bottom-up controls of the kelp forest and red abalone in California based on the archaeological, historical, and ecological data.
